Singer (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (198301002635,97871-K, AJL93004) (“Singer”) is a consumer durables marketing company that runs on both direct selling and retail marketing platform by merging the best features of a direct selling system with the convenience and reach of a wide retail chain nationwide.

The history of the “Singer” brand name in Malaysia started in 1906 with the opening of the first branch by the Singer Sewing Machine Company of USA, the Singer brand has been trusted for generations for its sewing machines catering for both the home and industrial use. 

In 1985, Berjaya Corporation Berhad Group (“BCorp Group”) acquired a 48% equity stake in Singer followed by another 36.5% equity stake to assume management control of Singer in 1989. Through various subsequent corporate exercises, Singer became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berjaya Retail Bhd on 14 June 2010, an investment holding company owned by Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, the founder of BCorp.

Singer’s business model has diversified over the years and has evolved from selling of sewing machines on cash and credit initially, to include other household appliances into its range of products offering. Today, its retail distribution network has expanded to over 300 shops in major townships, suburban and rural areas supported by more than 1,000 sales associates, 100+ authorised after sales service contractors, and more than 500 independent merchants nationwide to market a wide variety of consumer durables as well as key motorbike brands, coupled with various type of credit facilities according to different product categories for a tenure of up to 72 months. 

Singer was the pioneer in offering flexible Easy Payment Scheme, providing customers the option of paying for the purchases via monthly instalments.
